The concepts of Universal Design and Aging in Place are relatively new terms that describe a home designed for people of all ages and abilities. Curb-less showers, handrails, accessory /grab-bars, step-less grade changes, and special positioning of electrical outlets are just a few of the features incorporated into a Universal Design or Aging in Place remodel. The design resulting from this new way of building is very attractive even to the youngest of us. When done right, your Aging in Place remodel will allow you to enjoy your home for many years, and also create inviting and gracious spaces. We at Irons Brothers Construction are certified to remodel any room of your home to the newest of Aging-in-Place standards.
Most American homeowners want to continue living in their home throughout their maturing years. This means that most of us prefer to age-in-place, which means living in a safe, comfortable home independently and regardless of your age and/or your ability level. Many of use will probably need to modify our homes to age-in-place as we mature. This probably will mean modifications to your home to increase access and maneuverability. These changes can range from the installation of a bath and shower grab bars, adjustments to your countertop heights, creating a multifunctional first floor without transitions, and even the installation of private elevators or chair lifts.

Child Safety is another area of consideration. We often suggest the use of low or no-VOC paints, formaldehyde-free finishes for floors and countertops, as well as other design features that can make family life safer and more enjoyable. We work with our clients to install custom child gates, locks and other safety products in ways which will not compromise design. Irons Brothers Construction experience also includes renovations of several childcare centers and schools.
